Abstract

India is popularly known as the “Spice Bowl of the World” for production of variety of spices with superior quality. Turmeric is called as Indian saffron and it is one among the important commercial crop grown in India. India is the largest producer and consumer of turmeric in the world. India contributes about 78 per cent of the world production and a major supplier of turmeric to the world with more than 60 per cent share in turmeric trade. In the last three decades Indian agriculture witnessed so many policy and technological changes. In this context an attempt is made in this study to examine the growth and instability in turmeric production in terms of area, production and yield in selected states of India.
